Stonehenge, from a little further away

We spent a few days parked near Stonehenge. From the truck, we could see the stones across the fields, but it was the wider landscape that stayed with me.
I photographed the monument in black and white, sometimes close enough to see the texture of the stones, sometimes from a distance where people become tiny figures beside them. The crowds are part of the scene too. Even with so many visitors, there are moments when the scale and age of the place are hard to take in.
Beyond the stones, paths cross the open fields and lead towards burial mounds on the horizon. We followed one in the evening, with the light falling across the grass. Fernanda stopped for a portrait, and I took a few photographs of the truck with Stonehenge behind it.
Those colour images feel like the other half of the visit. The black-and-white photographs are how I saw the stones; the colour ones remind me what it was like for us to be there.
