Wandering through Kimmeridge

1 min read

Before heading on to Corfe Castle, we spent a little time wandering through Kimmeridge village with the camera. After our visit to the bay, it was lovely to see another side of the place: stone cottages, sweeping thatched roofs and gardens spilling over low walls.

Kimmeridge’s historic centre is a conservation area, and much of its character lies in the small details. White windows sit deep in thick stone walls, thatch curves around upstairs rooms, and climbing plants soften the cottage fronts. With the surrounding hills appearing between the buildings, the village feels closely connected to the countryside around it.

It’s a stunning, unspoilt place, and we found plenty to photograph without going far. We followed the road past the cottages, stopped to look at the little church and its weathered gravestones, and watched sheep grazing in a nearby field.

Back beneath the trees, the truck was waiting for us. We packed the camera away and headed on towards Corfe Castle, happy we’d made time to see the village as well as the coast.
