Inside our home on wheels

From the outside, the truck doesn’t give much away about what it feels like to live inside. We wanted the interior to be a calm, open space for two people, with room to work, cook and relax without constantly stepping around each other.

A proper desk was important to me. I spend a lot of time editing photographs, and an old BMX injury means I can’t work comfortably hunched over a laptop. Giving the desk its own place shaped the rest of the layout.

We chose to keep the centre of the room open rather than build a corridor through it. The bench gives us a place to sit and useful storage, while the bed is also our softer space to lounge. We kept the area around and above it clear, with padded walls so it feels comfortable to spend time there during the day.

The kitchen has a clear worktop, and we can cook inside or take our equipment out onto the slide-out deck. When the deck is set up, it becomes another living space with a view of wherever we’ve stopped.

There are things we’ll keep adjusting as we live in it, but the choices that mattered most to us are working. It feels spacious enough to share and small enough to take with us.
